Artist Statement
For my portfolio this year, I have been exploring the question of “how our relationships illuminate our lives”. Throughout the past two semesters, I have practiced many different types of mediums, including oil and acrylic painting, screen printing, monotypes, etchings, and even colored pencil. While I feel that I perform best when using mediums such as oil paints or monotypes, it was important for me to experiment and revise my work so that I could grow more as an artist. Through these trials, I learned how to adjust my mindset when a piece was not looking the way I wanted. I have grown to know that there is always another mark I can add to illuminate the subject of my canvas. I put an emphasis on the illumination of my subjects because I feel that the relationships in lives create joy and therefore a sense of light. Even though not every piece has a direct light source, each piece has a certain warm tone to it to create this sense of joy.
